Knowing somebody else is beyond our abilities

I can like you but I will never know you.

Only people who can identify their own strengths and weaknesses are in a position to see the strengths and weaknesses in other people, however, if the quote by Shakespeare, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players;” is to be believed, it would indicate people change their behaviour depending on the situation and characters that surround them at any given time. This means we will never truly know anybody else, we will only know the character they are playing when we meet them; after all, the loving mother and hated celebrity can be and often are, the same person..

At the end of the day the only person we can ever hope to know is ourselves but maybe that’s enough because:

“Knowing yourself eliminates the need to know somebody else.”
