You can’t teach what you do not understand

“Before you can teach, you have to understand; understanding is not found in books because you only find knowledge in books. Understanding is found through experience, which means, before you become a great teacher, you have to experience life.”

“Failure is a great teacher, and I think when you make mistakes and you recover from them and you treat them as valuable learning experiences, then you’ve got something to share.” ~Steve Harvey

You can share the knowledge contained within books with other people, and that’s going to work as long as they don’t question the knowledge that you’re sharing with them.

The best example of learning versus understanding can be summed up by the following sentence.

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Understanding is knowing that you don’t put a tomato in a fruit salad.
