Tom wasn’t alone, but it wasn’t another person with him—it was himself, or rather, versions of himself. The small guesthouse was covered in mirrors, dozens of them, some old, some new, placed at odd angles, reflecting every corner of the room. Tom stood in the center, talking softly, his face distorted in the reflections, as if he were conversing with the figures in the glass.
I froze, unsure of what I was seeing. He moved like he was in a trance, eyes flicking between different mirrors, his voice rising and falling in a rhythm I couldn’t follow.
“Tom?” I called out, stepping further inside.
He whipped around, his face pale, eyes wide with alarm. “You shouldn’t be here,” he whispered, backing away, his body trembling. “They don’t like it when someone watches.”
“Who?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
He pointed to the mirrors, his hand shaking. “Them. They’ve been here…long before me. I’m just keeping them company.”

I glanced at the mirrors again. That’s when I noticed something horrifying—there were faces in the reflections that didn’t match Tom’s. Shadows, outlines of figures that twisted and shifted unnaturally behind the glass, their eyes fixed on me. My stomach turned. This wasn’t just about Tom losing his mind. Something was in the house.
I stepped back slowly. “Tom, we need to get out of here.”
But Tom just shook his head, his expression calm now, almost serene. “They’ve already chosen me. It’s too late.”
As I backed toward the door, one of the reflections in the mirror closest to me smiled—a grotesque, unnatural smile that didn’t belong to Tom or me. I slammed the door behind me and ran back to my house, heart pounding.
The next morning, I found the guesthouse empty. Tom had vanished without a trace, but the mirrors remained. I tried to take them down, but no matter how many times I removed them, they always reappeared the next day.
I’ve since moved out, but the house still stands, along with those mirrors. Sometimes, I hear whispers about people seeing strange things in the windows. Some say Tom is still in there, talking to the shadows. Others believe it’s something much darker, waiting for its next guest.
