A Bella Universe Story: Intelligence report

Mission Enlightenment: Operation Smart Human, smarter puppy.

It began, as all important conversations do, during a well-deserved massage—or, as most people know it, a satisfying belly rub.

Claire was on the floor, looking tired. Bella was in bliss, her hind leg twitching with happiness. Then Claire’s scratching paused.

“You’re so clever, Bella,” she sighed. “I wish people had your common sense.”

Bella’s leg froze. Common sense? That was high praise.

“Some people are smart about useless things,” Claire continued softly. “They can win an online argument but can’t work their own washing machines. They post long stories about happiness and then scroll through their feeds tut-tutting other people’s posts.”

She smiled. “But you… you don’t pretend. You don’t need to tell everyone how to nap. You just nap. Perfectly.”

Bella puffed her chest. It was true. She was a professional napper, with a distinguished portfolio in sofa sprawl and sunbeam meditation.

“You don’t try to be smarter than the poodle next door,” Claire added.

Bella’s eyes snapped open. Madame Fluffington. The fancy poodle who had never mastered the art of being a proper dog. (Bella blamed the humans.)

“That’s your brilliance,” Claire whispered, stroking her head. “You don’t act wise. You just are. You know an open door means adventure, and a sigh means I just need you here.”

Bella understood. Humans talked so much, but she understood their quiet moments best. She knew the important things: be loyal, enjoy naps, and always be present for a friend.

The smartest creature isn’t the one who knows the most—it’s the one who knows what truly matters.

And for Bella, that meant you should always beg for treats, even if you’re full or don’t know if what they’re eating is good for you… just in case.
(Maybe her genius had its limits.)
