Someone else can’t make you happy

Marcus Aurelius

Somebody else cannot grant you happiness because if they do it’s only a temporary emotion. True happiness is found within when you decide that regardless of what you’re doing at any given moment, that is exactly what you’re supposed to be doing. The day you find happiness in the mundane is the day you’ll never forget.

I read a story recently about a woman who worked in a canteen, she worked long hours and when she went home she had to do all the mundane chores associated with living, however, she always had a smile and warm greeting for everybody she met, her contentment was contagious and people returned her warm generosity of spirit, even when they didn’t, she didn’t adopt their apparent unhappiness and pass it on to the next customer. One day she was asked, how come you’re always in good humour? Her answer was quite simple:

You don’t have to like what you’re doing to find happiness doing it.
