Positive people will tell you what to do

Concentrate on people who tell you what to do

Listen to the people who tell you what to do because they are the positive people in your life.

Any time you see a list that begins with poor people don’t, rich people don’t, positive people don’t, skinny people don’t or fat people don’t; you can be sure the list is going to be as useful as a broken umbrella in a thunder storm.

For example: “Don’t stop believing in you,” it sounds positive, however when you break it down, it says, do not, stop, believing in you. Two negative words before believing. If you replaced the three words with “believe,” you get. “Believe in you.” It changes from a negative to a positive.

Another example: The other day I was speaking with somebody who declared, “I don’t want to work until I’m old and tired.” I suggested they change their words to, ” I want to retire when I’m young enough to enjoy my retirement.” The two sentences will have the same conclusion, the person will retire, however, one is focusing on a positive outcome while the other has a negative outcome.

A simple example: In my current role I ask a lot of people how they are? You’d be surprised by how many people reply with, “not too bad.” That’s still bad, regardless of how you look at it. The people who reply with, “I’m good,” always sound more upbeat.

I used to belong to the, “not too bad,” brigade until a few years when I started to pay more attention to the words I used. I now belong to the group who is always having a good day. I’ll leave you with a line I believe in.

Positive people use positive language.
