We’d all like to think we’re invaluable, that if we left our job in the morning we’d be missed, this maybe the case as far as our co-workers are concerned, however, our employers will not look at it from that point of view. The question they’re going to ask is. “How much is it going to cost to replace us?”
That cost is highly dependent upon whether you’re a follower or a creator.
If your job consists of following procedures? The cost of training your replacement is all that’s taken into consideration.
If you’re somebody who creates procedures that other people follow? Your value is significantly higher because your replacement will be difficult, if not impossible to find.

“Why impossible?” You may ask. The answer is quite simple, truly creative people are scarce, and when an employer finds one of them, they will do everything they can to keep them.
This post comes with one caveat.
- The employer must have the ability to realise what they’re losing, not all do because they got to where they are by following procedures.
