Your opinion is valuable to whom

In the grand scheme of things, your opinion is only valuable to yourself. Please allow me to explain.

The people who agree with your opinion won’t change because you shared your opinion with them.

The people who disagree with your opinion won’t change because you shared your opinion with them.

The people who didn’t have an opinion on the subject you’re sharing your opinion on won’t have changed because they’re not interested enough in the subject to care.

If the people you’re sharing your opinion with respect you, they may alter their opinion on the subject from a 5 to a 6 on the likert scale. That’s not a big change. However, if they don’t respect your opinion, sharing your opinion with them might make them go from a 5 to a 4 on the same scale. This means your opinion is not going to change someone else’s opinion in any meaningful way.

That’s why I changed how I interact with other people. Once upon a time, I used to share my opinion, which I still do on this site, but in my everyday life, I stopped sharing because I realised it’s only valuable to me. I’ll leave you with one final thought.

Facts are more valuable than opinions.
