Something New Every Day

Stories and essays on identity, creative thought, and everyday common sense.

Your thoughts are responsible for creating your life. You can’t get away from them, forget them, or fool them because they exist within the part of your mind where you have little control. However, you can change them if you really want to because they’re not real. You see, you’ve been creating your thoughts and your thought process since the day you were born. At this point, I should mention that you can’t change all of your thoughts. For example, if you believe you will die if you jumped off the Eifel tower, changing your beliefs will not change the outcome of that action. The thoughts you can change are based on your perception of the world and the people who live on it, including yourself.

There is a relationship between your thoughts and the ability to change them. The more you believe in any given thought, the more difficult it will be to change it. For example, if you believe you are super intelligent on everything you know, nothing is going to change that thought, not even the truth because your mind will not accept anything that goes against a strongly held belief. The opposite is also true; if you believe you’re not intelligent, no amount of compliments or certificates will change that mindset.

I’m sure you get the picture; only the thoughts that are open to change can be changed. This means that as long as you’re open to changing your thoughts, you are open to changing your life.

That’s right, those people who are forever telling you it’s never too late are right.
