The world is divided by opinion

You can believe the world is flat if you want, just don’t ask me to agree with you. You’ll find that I’ve a similar opinion about everything from religions to myths and legends. I will never blindly follow anything unless people have facts to back up their claims. That sentence rules me out of believing in any religion because anything man-made where they want you to follow rules created by an all-powerful deity makes absolutely no sense. On the other hand, I think that everyone should be allowed to believe in whatever deity they like. I’d like them to believe in a benevolent one that’s not so insecure that they forbid the worshipping of other deities. It’s not like you get married to them, is it?

Religion is just the tip of the iceberg. One of the biggest problems facing the world today is that too many people are divided by opinions and beliefs. In every culture, you will have opposing forces claiming that they have the general public’s interest at heart, yet regardless of who’s in control, the lives of the general public rarely changes for the better. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t vote in general elections or any elections, for that matter. However, I think everyone else should have the right to vote if they think their vote is going to bring about the changes that they want to see. I must also point out that I don’t criticise any government, that right is given up by not voting.

It’s for the above reasons that I’m a follower of the scientific approach to life, not because science is always right, it’s because science is always open to being wrong. If new facts emerge to discredit previously held beliefs in science, new beliefs are created until they are proven or disproved. That brings me back to the people who believe the earth is flat, I certainly hope that they don’t fall off the edge of the planet and find themselves floating in space. I’ll leave you with one final thought.

I will respect your beliefs as long as you respect my right to not believe in them.
