In a quiet town called Willow Creek nestled at the heart of a towering forest of pine trees, a series of strange occurances began to unfold. It began innocently enough with whispers and odd noises emanating from an old abandoned mansion on the outskirts of town.
As the days turned into years and people’s imaginations working overtime; the mansion became a source of horror stories that were told to children to make them do what they were told. There were tales of lights flickering during the night and eerie, blood curdling screams being heard at all times.
Despite the stories and the growing sense of unease spreading through the town, the mansion became the target of a group of curious teenagers. One evening, after school, they set out to find out the truth behind the rumours. Armed with flashlights and a fearless disposition that only teenagers possess, they made their way over the walls that were designed to keep strangers out. They underestimated the time it took to reach the mansion through the brambles, and when they arrived at the front door, the light of evening was fading into darkness.
As they entered the decrepit building and began to explore the dilapidated rooms, one of the teenagers spotted an opening in the wall where a secret door had once been hung. On the other side was a sight they didn’t expect to see. It sent shivers down their spines as they realised that all the jars on one side of the room contained life-like specimens.
But the true horror was found on the other side of the room – there stood a table that was clearly designed for torture. They could see manacles hanging down from where they stood, but as they got closer, they could see a mutilated body with dried blood all around it. The limbs were twisted at such an angle that they couldn’t make out if it was human or not. It was at that moment that they heard a loud noise coming from the next room, every shred of remaining courage disappeared in an instant, they turned and ran as fast as they could in the direction they had come in, their hearts were beating so hard in their eardrums that they thought they were being chased.
Terrified, the teenagers fled the mansion, they made little of getting back over the wall and didn’t stop until they reached the lights of town. Only then did they stop and agree to never mention that adventure to anyone. Mainly because of the trouble they would get into for going to the mansion in the first place, and they didn’t think anyone would believe them either. Of course, their sleep over the next fortnight was interrupted by the nightmare of what they thought they had seen. They did discuss going back during the day but quickly found any number of excuses for not going.
The question that everyone asks is, was their adventure real or imagined because of the ghost stories that they had heard about the haunted mansion since they were toddlers?
