Something New Every Day

Stories and essays on identity, creative thought, and everyday common sense.

In the small, mist-shrouded town of Ethelwyn, nestled in a forgotten corner of the world, there lived an old philosopher named Dr. Alistair Crowe. His home, a rambling house filled with ancient books and curious artefacts, was a testament to his lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Despite his vast intellect, there was one question that had haunted him for decades: What lies beyond the edge of human understanding?

Dr. Crowe’s journey began in his youth, inspired by tales of the unknown. He studied fervently, travelling far and wide to glean wisdom from scholars, mystics, and sages. Over time, he amassed a library containing works from every conceivable discipline, yet the answers he sought remained elusive.

One evening, as a storm raged outside, Dr. Crowe discovered a dusty manuscript hidden in the back of an old cabinet. It was a fragment of an ancient text, written in a forgotten language. After months of painstaking translation, he deciphered its meaning: a map, or rather, a guide to a place called the “End of Knowledge.”

Intrigued and filled with renewed purpose, Dr. Crowe embarked on his final journey. He crossed treacherous mountain ranges, circumnavigated expansive deserts, and sailed uncharted waters, guided by the cryptic directions of the manuscript. Each step brought him closer to the mysterious destination, yet the journey itself seemed to test the limits of his endurance and intellect.
