Josh was always too quick to take offence

Josh was known for his quick temper and sensitive nature. He was a decent guy; kind, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand, but he had a peculiar habit of taking offence at the most innocuous remarks. His friends often found themselves walking on eggshells around him for fear of how their words might be interpreted.

One sunny afternoon, Josh and his friends decided to have a picnic in the park. The air was filled with the sounds of laughter and the aroma of grilled burgers. It was the perfect day to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. As they set up their blankets and unpacked their baskets, conversation flowed easily.

“Josh, can you pass me the ketchup?” asked Lisa, reaching out her hand.

Josh’s brow furrowed, and he gave Lisa a sharp look. “Why do you always assume I’m the one who should pass things around? Do I look like a servant to you?”

Lisa blinked, taken aback. “No, I just thought you were closer to it, that’s all.”

Josh muttered something under his breath and handed over the ketchup, but the mood had shifted slightly. His friends exchanged glances, silently agreeing to tread carefully.

Later, as they lounged on the blankets, enjoying the sun, Mark commented on the weather. “Isn’t it a beautiful day? I love how clear the sky is.”

Josh frowned. “Are you saying that rainy days aren’t beautiful? Some of us like the rain, you know.”

Mark sighed. “I wasn’t saying that at all, Josh. I just meant today is nice.”

Josh crossed his arms, his mood visibly darkening. The friends attempted to steer the conversation to safer topics, but it seemed that nothing was safe from Josh’s interpretations.

As the day progressed, Josh’s tendency to take offence began to wear on everyone’s nerves. When Carla complimented his new haircut, he accused her of implying that his old haircut was terrible. When Ben mentioned that Josh had a knack for choosing great books, he took it as a veiled insult to his taste in movies.
