Your actions have been controlled by AI for years

You don’t need to worry about AI controlling your behaviour in the future due to the fact that it’s been controlling your actions for years on every social media platform you use. You see, complex algorithms developed by social media platform owners have been showing you what you wanted to see and what businesses have been paying for you to see.

These algorithms are designed to maximise engagement by showing users content that they are likely to interact with, often leading to a feedback loop where users are exposed to more of what they like, believe, or are curious about. This can shape opinions, reinforce negative attitudes, and even influence decisions without us realising it.

Businesses and advertisers also capitalise on these algorithms by targeting specific audiences with tailored ads, further influencing consumer behaviour. The AI behind these platforms isn’t just passively presenting content; it’s actively guiding our attention and, in some cases, our decisions.

This raises important questions about autonomy and awareness. Are we truly making independent choices, or are we subtly being guided by algorithms optimised for engagement and profit? Understanding this influence is crucial as AI continues to evolve and integrate deeper into our daily lives.

However, you can offset the effects of algorithms by asking yourself one simple question when you’re online. “IS THIS REAL?” Or, “DO I NEED THAT?”
