Something New Every Day

Stories and essays on identity, creative thought, and everyday common sense.

Welcome, fellow human. You’ve arrived—not at some glittering mountaintop of achievement, but at something even better: today.

Not “someday.” Not “once I finish this.” Just… today.

There’s no trophy ceremony waiting for you. You’re not that kind of athlete. You’re a member of the human race.

So go ahead:

  • Laugh so hard, you snort.
  • Stare at the clouds like a medieval poet.
  • Leave one email unanswered.
  • Let the laundry wait for its redemption arc.
  • Take the long way to nowhere in particular.
  • Eat something delicious without wondering about the consequences.

Give yourself permission to not strive for a while.

You don’t have to earn your right to rest. You’re already enough without maxing out your calendar.

What if today’s “achievement” is simply noticing the way sunlight spills across the floor, creating a wonderful mosaic of shadows and highlights?

So, Here’s Your Permission Slip:

  • Waste time gloriously. The most alive people aren’t the ones with the fullest calendars but the ones who remember how to linger.
