3. Why Our Brains Fall for This.
A. The “Single Cause” Fallacy
Our brains love simple explanations. “Microwaves bad” is easier than:
- “Heating reduces dissolved oxygen, which affects root respiration, leading to slower growth.”
B. The “Mysterious Technology” Bias
People distrust what they don’t understand. Microwaves use “radiation” (a scary word), so it’s easy to blame them instead of basic thermodynamics.
C. The “They’re Hiding the Truth!” Appeal
Silence creates gaps, and gaps invite conspiracy thinking.
- “Why didn’t they mention boiling water? What are they hiding?”
4. How to Spot & Defeat This Trick.
Ask These Questions:
- “Is this the only possible explanation?”
- Could something else (heat, container material, cooling time) cause the same result?
- “What’s being left out?”
- No mention of dissolved oxygen? No comparison to boiled water? Red flag.
- “Who benefits from me believing this?”
- Is this pushing an agenda (e.g., “buy our natural water revitalizer”)?
