A curious mind will notice the moss

Beneath the generous shade of an old oak tree rests a car that surrendered its journeys long ago. A velvet cloak of moss softens its contours, and time has gently faded its once-vibrant colour. To a passing glance, it is a portrait of an ending.

It’s easy to assume a story of loss: a broken engine, a final journey, a life faded into memory. We are quick to write narratives of conclusion.

But what if we’re reading it wrong?

What if this isn’t a monument to an end but the forgotten prologue to a magnificent beginning? What if the owner simply outgrew the driveway, launching into a life of such expansive success that this quiet relic was the only thing they left behind? The moss, then, isn’t a shroud of neglect, but a gentle blanket tucking in a chapter that was simply finished.

This silent vehicle holds a profound secret: no passerby will ever know its true story. And perhaps that is the entire point.

It stands as a quiet testament that what looks like an ending to the world can be the very moment a new story is launched elsewhere. That every “abandoned” thing—be it a car, a plan, or an old version of yourself—is not merely a relic. It is potential waiting to be understood. It is proof that from the most humble and forgotten beginnings, the most extraordinary stories can unfold.

Look at the forgotten places in your own life. What have you left behind that the world might mistake for a failure? Perhaps it was simply the necessary launching pad for the person you are becoming.
