Can you imagine what the world would look like if every thought was acted upon? I can. It has two potential results. It would lead to complete chaos, or people would learn to have complete control over their thoughts. More than likely, we’d experience both outcomes. The chaos would lead to control. Luckily for humanity, people have some control between thought and actions. You see, thoughts by themselves are not dangerous. It’s only when you apply strong emotions to those thoughts that they have the potential to be dangerous. If those thoughts and emotions are projected outwards, they are a danger to everyone who interacts with the owner. If they are bottled up, they are a danger to the person holding on to them.
It is the mark of a peaceful mind who can entertain every thought without becoming emotionally attached to it.
The most tormented people are the people who got everything they ever wanted and realised it wasn’t enough.
The example I’m going to use is mountain climbing, but you can replace that with any goal you have achieved in your life, be they educational, career, or personal goals.
The person who climbs one mountain will almost immediately start making plans to climb another because they realised that the important part of the climb wasn’t reaching the summit. It was the journey to reach it. But what happens when climbing the next mountain isn’t enough? That’s the point when people start to question their life choices.
I’ve divided people into three broad groups with varying levels of success, which are as follows.
The person who cimbs every mountain worth climbing may eventually reach the conclusion that what they’re looking for can’t be found in any mountain range. These are the most successful people. They eventually stop chasing external goals and start to look within themselves to reach the most coveted goal of all, and that is peace of mind.
The people who experience constant disappointment are not so lucky. They get so disillusioned with their inability to reach their goals that they give up. That’s not to say that they won’t find peace of mind, but that journey is not going to be a comfortable one.
Most people will fall into the category of the climber. They will achieve just enough success to make them want to see what’s over the next horizon. They’ll be so busy chasing their goals that they won’t have time to find peace of mind. To be honest, it may never cross their minds that peace of mind is what they’re really looking for.
Someone famous once said that you should choose a goal so big that you spend a lifetime trying to achieve it. I believe that peace of mind could be that goal.
I don’t want you to remember me when I’m gone because that isn’t why you were given the gift of life.
By all means, you can remember some of the things I’ve said, not because I said them, but how they had a positive influence on your life. There’s a good reason for that, too, and that is, those words are learned from someone else, I just didn’t give them the credit at the time I said them. It’s probably because I didn’t remember who said them at the time or too lazy to Google the answer.
Other reasons to not remember me.
Nothing you think or say about the dead is going to change the fact that they will not hear you. The old saying of not speaking ill of the dead has more to do with the mindset and life of the living than it does about the departed. That’s because of the law of attraction. What you send out into the world will be returned to you.
I don’t respect the dead because they don’t need to be respected. However, I have the greatest respect for the living. As long as you don’t expect me to believe in everything you believe in, I will respect your right to believe in it.
If there was any way possible for the dead to communicate with the living, I’m fairly sure the dead folk are not going to make the people they loved pay a stranger to hear the messages unless they’ve got an interesting sense of humour.
Conclusion
I don’t want you to remember me when I’m gone because you were born to live your life, not spend your life remembering mine.
P.S. If you’ve spent a lifetime interacting with me, you can remember me for a little while. However, if it was only a short period of time that seemed like a lifetime, I don’t want you to remember me when I’m gone.
According to Einstein, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I can only guess that he was referring to the scientific research he was doing at the time. However, in today’s world, that sentence impacts every area of life.
The business world
One example is that of a company who haven’t changed their induction and training programme for twenty years, and are wondering why they have such a high turnover of staff. They obviously fall into the insane category.
The political world
People have been voting people into positions of power for centuries. I don’t have to elaborate on that sentence, but I will. It doesn’t matter who’s in control because they don’t have the power to bring about real change. That power lies in the hands of people who do the real work behind the politicians.
Your private world
You will find yourself in heavy traffic from time to time. If you get angry or irritated every time you find yourself in that situation, you are, by Einstein’s definition, insane. This also applies if you have the same reaction to other people’s driving. 😂
Your personal world
Throughout your life, you will have meaningless conversations where the outcome is predictable in that it doesn’t matter. However, there will be times when you are asked for advice where the outcome is important for the person asking for advice. If you give your advice and it’s ignored, that’s their perogative. They chose to take a different path. However, if they ignore your advice every time, you need to start wondering if it’s worth your while giving them advice at all.
Your ego
If you allow other people’s words or actions to offend you? That’s your ego or self of sense being offended. If you’re constantly being offended, you may need to take a closer look at yourself or may think you’re going insane.
