If you wait long enough, people will show you who they truly are. You know, it usually happens right after their second glass of wine, when all those carefully constructed personas start to crack. They’ll let out little truths—whether they mean to or not.
If you wait long enough, people will eventually have nothing more to say. However, the most talkative people are different because the moment they run out of things to say, they’ll immediately start talking about how strange it is to have run out of things to say.
And then, if you wait long enough, people will start getting creative. They will suddenly become experts on everything from ancient history to pizza toppings. You’ll hear debates on which came first to which there is no answer, but someone will be sure they’re right.
If you wait long enough, you’ll hear the real story. However, you may have to hear many versions of the story before it’s revealed. It’s like peeling layers of an onion. Eventually, you’re left with the nugget of truth.
So, the next time you find yourself stuck waiting—whether it’s in a long line or in life—just remember: if you wait long enough, you’ll discover more than you ever expected.
