Your Feelings are Your Responsibility

Your feelings can change. However, the facts that created those feelings are set in stone.

This means that holding onto negative emotions, including anger, is a choice you make every day. However, I believe it’s not a good choice to make.

You see, letting go of negative emotions doesn’t mean excusing bad behaviour or forgetting what happened. Instead, it’s about releasing its hold on you so you can find peace and move forward.

Choosing forgiveness, understanding, or simply focusing on what you can control can be far healthier alternatives. It’s an act of self-care, allowing you to reclaim your energy and focus on the positive aspects of life.

Letting go can be difficult

Some people are too weak to let go of their negative feelings because letting go often requires significant emotional strength, self-awareness, and a willingness to confront deep pain.

In some cases, people may:

Fear change: Letting go of negative feelings might mean accepting a new reality or releasing an identity tied to their hurt.

Feel justified: They may believe their anger or sadness is valid and feel that releasing it undermines the significance of what they’ve endured.

Have unresolved trauma: Deep wounds can create cycles of negativity that are hard to break without significant effort or help.

However, “Weakness” probably isn’t the best term to use because people who’ve survived traumatic experiences will perceive themselves as strong, but what they don’t realise is that letting go shows exceptional strength of character. That’s the definition of real strength.

Conclusion

If the feelings you have are not allowing you to enjoy your life, I’ve a feeling it’s time to change those feelings.
