Something New Every Day

Stories and essays on identity, creative thought, and everyday common sense.

Everything you see with your eyes and hear with your ears is history in action. The further you are from the event, the more historical it is. The conversation you’re having with the person on the other side of your sitting room is creating two historical events, while the light you see in the night sky could be from a star that doesn’t exist anymore.

This means that you’re creating history and observing history every minute of your life.

Remember, you don’t need to react to history. You can ignore it. However, it’s important to recognise that it existed because there are some events that you don’t want to repeat.

P.S. You live in the moment when you act instead of reacting to your historical events.
