Chase your own destiny—Not someone else’s.

This is by far my favourite topic to write about because I believe that if everybody embraced their own destiny instead of someone else’s, then they would live a far more enjoyable- if not happier life. Enjoy.

In life, some people have their destinies thrust upon them, while others carve their own paths. But the reality is, most people spend their lives chasing someone else’s version of success—whether it’s fame, wealth, or social status—rather than defining their own.

It’s easy to admire what others have and assume that their success is the blueprint for happiness. Social media, societal expectations, and cultural norms reinforce this idea, making it tempting to pursue external markers of achievement rather than taking the time to understand what truly matters on a personal level.

The Illusion of External Success

The problem with chasing someone else’s dream is that it rarely leads to real fulfilment. When success is defined by external validation rather than internal purpose, it often results in emptiness. Many people work tirelessly toward goals that were never truly theirs to begin with—living lives that look impressive but don’t feel meaningful.

Defining Success on Your Own Terms

The key to real happiness is self-awareness. Instead of blindly following what society deems “successful,” take the time to ask:

1. What excites and fulfils my life?

2. Am I pursuing this because I truly want it or because it’s expected of me?

3. If no one were watching, would I still choose this path?

4. Am I excited for every new day?

True success is about aligning your actions with your core values and passions, not just following the conventional route. It’s about having the courage to walk a path that may not always be understood or validated by others. For example, a person who spends their time turning down invitations instead of going places to please someone else.

The Reward of an Authentic Life

Living authentically isn’t always easy—it requires introspection, resilience, and a willingness to stand apart from the crowd. But the reward is a life that feels genuinely fulfilling. Whether your destiny is created by you or unfolds naturally, the most meaningful paths are those consciously chosen, not blindly inherited.

So, instead of chasing someone else’s version of success, take ownership of your own. Your destiny is yours to define.

I’ll leave you with a quote that encapsulates this post. “Your time is limitedso don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” – Steve Jobs.
